We hear this term a lot. What exactly are you doing when you are doing SEO for your WordPress site?
Let’s use the example that you are selling cat food in Lodi, California, and you want to make sure your website comes up on the top, front page for the keyword “cat food in lodi, ca”.
We will go over what it takes to get your website to the top, front page results when someone enters your keyword, also known as making your website “SEO friendly”.
The basics your website needs in order to be optimized on most search engine but especially Google’s search engine is :
your WordPress website must have clean URL structures
your WordPress website should have a <title> tag and <h1> tags
your WordPress website should have meta tags and social meta tags
your WordPress website must be mobile responsive
Now those are the basics. Let’s get a little bit deeper with making our website SEO friendly and now I am going to give you a few tips to make it competitive (show up before your competitors do on search results).
Know what keywords are, they are not just words, they are actually closer to phrases. Notice in the example above our keyword was “cat food in lodi, ca”, because that is what someone who is looking for cat food in lodi would actually type, NOT things like “cat food”. When you make your website so Google thinks “cat food” is a keyword, your sales will suffer because you will be getting responses from people you can not even convert! Knowing what a keyword is, and what keywords your website should target will help you target your audience better.
